This Wednesday, August 30, 2023, the city of Goma, seat of the province of North Kivu, awoke to gunshots. At the heart of this issue are new anti-Monusco protests organized by the “Wazalendo” under the auspices of the MECIATH church (the natural judaica messianic religion towards the nations).
There are gunshots at every hotspot in the city. Already this morning, the CEBCA-Ndosho hospital reported at least 20 wounded, with organizers claiming at least 8 dead.
The Goma town hall had previously prohibited the protest a week before. Since Tuesday night, many troops and police officers have been stationed in high-risk areas of the city in an attempt to quell potential protests.
The people who had previously been told of the protests stayed at home, while others gathered along the highways to watch the scenario unfold.
