TWO DIE AT A MINING SITE IN GICUMBI

Two young men who were buried in debris at a Wolfram mining site in the Gicumbi area died on Monday, according to local authorities.

Local authorities claim that two young men from Nyarusange Village in Kabare cell, Ruvune Sector, and Gicumbi District, namely Donat Irafasha and Noel Ntakirutimana, were murdered on December 26, 2022.

According to Oscar Beningoma, the executive secretary of Ruvune Sector, the two entered the farmer’s plantation that is thought to contain wolfram under the cover of night.

According to Beningoma, as the two young guys began excavating into one of the mine pits, the pit collapsed on them, taking their lives.

“The two young men dug through a Wolfram mine that had been dug before, and they reached the bottom of the mine which collapsed on them,” stated Beningoma.

The local leader added that the incident’s location had previously been recognized for illicit mining operations that were subsequently stopped.

Beningoma consoled the families of the two young men while also warning the populace against illicit mining and urging them to abide by the laws.

Local authorities said that the farmland’s owner had vanished in the meanwhile.
