Nine people are injured in a car accident in Rusororo, and a six-year-old is killed. Police warn drivers.

A six-year-old schoolchild was killed and at least nine others were injured by a speeding Toyota RAV4 in the Nyagasambu area of Rusororo Sector on the outskirts of Kigali on Tuesday evening, December 5.

Schoolchildren make up eight of the injured, according to ACP Boniface Rutikanga, the police spokesperson.

Depending on the extent of their injuries, the injured were sent to Rwamagana Hospital, Masaka Hospital, and other Nyagasambu Health Centers.

According to Rutikanga, there is a suspicion that the driver, who is currently being held at the Fumbwe police station, was drunkard.

Criminal charges for driving while drunkard and causing an accident that resulted in one death and multiple injuries could be brought against him.

Rutikanga declared, “It is a criminal offense, not just a traffic infraction.”

“Put road safety first.”

He urged drivers to exercise caution at all times, particularly during the holiday season.

He declared, “We have to hold each other accountable for road safety because police officers cannot be at every intersection.”

“To prioritize road safety, there needs to be a change in mindset and behavior that involves everyone.”

Rutikanga emphasized to drivers that one of the primary causes of accidents is alcohol consumption. He emphasized that regardless of the season, negligent drivers will face consequences and advised drivers to obey traffic signs, maintain a safe distance, and refrain from using their phones while operating a motor vehicle.

We would like to remind everyone to exercise caution during this exciting and celebratory time of year. He advised people to enjoy themselves sensibly and to avoid letting their joy turn into melancholy.
