Liberia: George Weah expressed gratitude to Joseph Boakai who beats him in the presidential election.

He declared: “The people of Liberia have spoken, and we have heard their voice” in his speech to the populace.

After counting every vote, the leader of the opposition has 28,000 votes.

President Weah, a former soccer player, has held the position since 2018. Handover is set in  January next year.

The youthful electorate enthusiastically welcomed him to power, last mandate, and he emerged victorious over Boakai, having secured the majority of votes.

However, he is thought to have failed to combat the economic downturn, inflation, and corruption that have tarnished his reputation.

Weah said he was “respected by the way the election was conducted which reflects the face of Liberia country” at the start of his five-minute speech. He also mentioned that he had spoken with Boakai, whom he referred to as “the elected president”.

The 78-year-old politician Boakai had 50.89% of the vote, according to the Election Commission, while Weah had 49.11%.

The president urged all Liberians to “work together to achieve harmony… unity as the priority for their mother land Liberia” and said of the vote tallying, “it showed the lack of unity in their country in Liberia, as task to elected president to accomplish.”
