A total of 421,973 students from all levels are preparing for the national exams, which will be held from mid-July to early August.
According to the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), primary leaving tests will be taken by 209,829 students, while O-level and A-Level exams will be taken by 131,482 and 48,543 students, respectively.
Furthermore, 28,141 candidates from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs and 3,978 candidates from Teachers’ Training College (TTC) will be present.
Camille Kanamugire, Head of the Examination Department at NESA, expressed confidence in the upcoming national tests, which are set to begin on July 17 and end on August 4, in an interview with The New Times.
Kanamugire asked the candidates to focus and revise thoroughly, citing the vastness of the material and the limited time available. He reassured them, though, that the exams would cover topics they had already studied.
“No questions beyond the syllabus will be asked.” “They must remain focused and strive for success,” he suggested.
Kanamugire further stated that the national exams are an annual event that demands the active engagement of numerous stakeholders to ensure a smooth run and the achievement of the candidates.
“Teachers and parents are asked to help candidates by giving them enough time to revise and the necessary study materials,” he added.
In related events, the Ministry of Education inaugurated the Competence-Based Integrated Assessment for Practical National Exams in Technical Secondary Schools (TSS) and TVET on June 19. This evaluation will last through June 30.
These examinations are designed to assess candidates’ abilities, knowledge, and attitudes in order to determine their proficiency in specific trades.
