In an effort to deepen bilateral ties, Madagascar’s president, Andry Rajoelina, arrived in Rwanda country on Sunday for a three-day working visit.
President Rajoelina was welcomed by Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, at Kigali International Airport. Senior government officials, lawmakers, and representatives from the commercial sector joined the leader of Madagascar throughout the visit, which lasted until August 8.
President Paul Kagame invited President Rajoelina to come, and the two are scheduled to meet on Monday to have a tête-à -tête and other bilateral discussions that will result in the signing of a number of bilateral agreements in a variety of fields, including trade and socioeconomic development.
The head of state of Madagascar is scheduled to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial on Monday to pay his condolences to those who perished in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
According to a cabinet brief from President Rajoelina’s administration on the trip, the president hopes to learn from Rwanda’s experience in reconstructing the country after the genocide and to take away some lessons from the recent economic progress of the nation.
In June 2019, President Kagame and the First Lady, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, traveled to Madagascar, where the Head of State had been invited to celebrate the nation’s independence that month.
The visit, according to President Kagame at the time, was a chance to strengthen the bilateral ties between Rwanda and Madagascar. He claimed that through utilizing cooperation in fields like technology, agriculture, and security, among others, the two nations hoped to expand their trade and investment connections within the frameworks of COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
He took use of the chance to invite President Rajoelina to come visit us in Rwanda in an effort to deepen the bonds between our two nations.
